Winter 2024 Recipients

Lake & Harney County Animal Science Field Day $2,500

This project is a new program designed to increase an understanding for the health, quality care, and ethical treatment of livestock and small animals. The training will include lessons in animal science and public speaking to help expand 4-Hers knowledge and experience. The goal it to have this program be an annual event that will continue a partnership between Lake and Harney County. This will serve about 60 youth throughout the two counties.

Statewide Camp Tumbleweed $2,000

This project offers a unique, affordable overnight experience for 4-Hers across the state of Oregon. This grant will specifically help with lessening registration costs for the campers. Camp Tumbleweed is a fun, education opportunity to learn life skills, gain independence, and a sense of belonging for youth in grades 4th-6th grade, for a total of about 70 campers. Additionally, this grant will serve about 20 counselors between 9th-12th grade who will learn how to provide guidance, practice leadership, and build relationships through learning first aid, camper care, and team building.

State Outdoor Leadership Training $4,300

The objective of this project is to continue a centralized training event to train on topics that every outdoor focused 4-H youth leader needs to know such as: diversity, equity, inclusion, culture, first-aid, and leadership development. The overall goal is to standardize leadership training for the whole state of Oregon’s 4-H leadership to increase program quality and consistency throughout. This grant funding will specifically go towards lessening registration costs for attendees. This project will serve 175 youth ages 12 to 19 with 30 adults who will help facilitate!

Wallowa, Union, & Baker County Tri-County STEP $1,200

This project is a collaboration of Wallowa, Union, and Baker Counties that will offer 3 virtual sessions to about 90 youth between the ages of 9 and 19. The program would offer hands on opportunities for the 4-H youth to learn in areas that they do not have a traditional club for. These areas include sewing, arts/crafts, and gardening! Kits will be prepared for each 4-Her for each lesson. The overall goal for this project is to increase participation at the county fairs.

Fall 2023 Recipients

Clackamas & Washington County Ambassador Retreat $1,000

The goal of this project is to train 4-Her youth leaders to help assist with county and state events. The trainings would be monthly meetings that have lessons compromised of leadership, public speaking, and community engagement. This program will not only help the youth feel more prepared, but also more confident in their skills to being a helpful leader. This project will serve 15 youth, along with 4 adult volunteers.

Jackson County Shooting Sports $2,000

The objective of the shooting program is to teach an understanding of safe and responsible use of firearms. Therefore, this grant will help fund for 4-H shooting staff to ensure proper training and safety for 4-H youth ages 12 to 15. This is especially critical for this year since this club will be participating in high level competitions!

Statewide Questing Clovers Retreat $2,000

This project is a themed overnight camp designed to outreach to underserved populations within Oregon 4-H. This program will provide lasting connections, give youth the opportunity to explore various interests, and promote 4-H to youth. The theme of the camp will be “Geek Culture” and the funding will go towards materials to make the activities a reality! The camp will serve about 60 4-H youth throughout the state.

Statewide Nationals Team $4,000

This grant will help fund travel expenses to Nebraska for the Animal Sciences Oregon 4-H National Team. Areas of the competition will include horse bowl, hippology, horse communications, horse judging, poultry judging, quiz bowl, and livestock judging. Our team is compiled of 21 youth and 6 adult coaches from Benton, Coos, Deschutes, and Linn Counties!

Spring 2023 Recipients

4-H Center Equipment Shed $1,482

The current lock box that stores the safety equipment at the 4-H Center needs to be moved by a vehicle. Therefore, this grant will be funding a new small shed that can store the safety equipment and give easier access for the area’s programs. The goal of this project is to increase the camp program’s ability to use the swings without waiting for the equipment to be hauled and delivered. This will serve about 1,200 youth who will be attending the summer camps throughout the summer!

Lane County Adulting 101 $4,000

This project is a compilation of classes to teach teens ages 13 to 18 about various “adulting” topics that include: resume building, self-defense, first-aid, emergency preparedness, cooking, budgeting, mental health care, and car maintenance.

Statewide High Desert Leadership Retreat $5,000

The goal of this project is to increase participant numbers and maintain reputable educators through lessening registration costs. This project will create leadership development and positive social opportunities where youth can then apply their learned skills and knowledge to their future endeavors in a professional manner! The program will serve about 135 youth throughout the state.
