The Oregon 4-H Foundation is pleased to share that Wasco County 4-H youth will still have the opportunity to showcase and sell the livestock they have spent months raising and preparing, despite the cancellation of the 2026 Wasco County Fair due to the rapidly expanding Grasshopper Fire. The fire, which has burned more than 83,000 acres and prompted evacuation orders throughout the region, led county officials to cancel the fair in the interest of public safety.

In an extraordinary display of community support and collaboration, the Hood River County Fair has opened its facilities to Wasco County 4-H and FFA exhibitors. Livestock shows and the Wasco County Youth Livestock Auction have been relocated to the Hood River County Fairgrounds, ensuring that youth participants can still complete the culmination of a year's worth of hard work, learning, and investment.

"For many 4-H members, the fair and auction represent far more than a competition," said Nicole Schrock, Executive Director of the Oregon 4-H Foundation. "These young people have dedicated countless hours to caring for their animals, developing responsibility, and building life skills. We are deeply grateful to the Hood River County Fair and the many volunteers, partners, and community members who stepped forward to make this opportunity possible.

The Oregon 4-H Foundation encourages supporters, buyers, and community members to continue backing Wasco County youth by participating in the relocated auction and recognizing the resilience demonstrated by these young people and their families during a challenging wildfire season.
