Oregon 4-H Foundation Trustees Gather in Central Oregon

for a Weekend of Leadership, Learning, and Community

Sisters, Ore. (June 11-13, 2026) – The Oregon 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees came together in Central Oregon for a memorable Spring Board Weekend filled with meaningful conversations, strategic planning, community engagement, and celebration of the 4-H program's impact across the state.

The weekend began with an informal gathering in Bend, where trustees, staff, and supporters enjoyed an evening of connection and fellowship. This time together provided an opportunity to strengthen relationships and build the sense of community that continues to be the foundation of the Board's work on behalf of Oregon 4-H youth.

Advancing the Mission of Oregon 4-H

On Friday, trustees gathered at the Roundhouse Foundation in Sisters for the Oregon 4-H Foundation's Spring Business Meeting. The meeting featured updates from Oregon State University and Oregon 4-H leadership, highlighting the continued growth and impact of 4-H programs across the state.

Trustees heard from Dr. Kristopher Elliott, Vice Provost for Extension & Engagement and Director of OSU Extension Service, and Cathy Haas, Director and Program Leader for 4-H Youth Development, who shared updates on statewide priorities and opportunities for youth engagement. Todd Williver, 4-H Outdoor Recreation and Education Program Manager, presented on Oregon 4-H Shooting Sports, providing insight into one of the program's most popular areas of youth development.

The Board also welcomed Erin Borla, Executive Director of the Roundhouse Foundation, who shared how her organization is investing in communities throughout Oregon and partnering with organizations to create positive change. Foundation Executive Director Nicole Schrock and OSU Foundation Board Liaison Ken Austin provided updates on organizational priorities, fundraising efforts, and opportunities to strengthen partnerships that support Oregon 4-H.

Committee leaders reported on the work of the Development & External Relations, Grants, Finance, and Committee on Trustees, demonstrating the Board's ongoing commitment to responsible stewardship, strategic growth, and strengthening opportunities for Oregon youth.

Celebrating Community at the Sisters Rodeo

Following a productive day of meetings, trustees joined OSU Extension and OSU Foundation colleagues at the renowned Sisters Rodeo. The evening offered a chance to celebrate Oregon's agricultural heritage while continuing to build connections among Board members, volunteers, and partners.

The annual rodeo provided an ideal setting for trustees to experience firsthand the communities they serve and support through their work with Oregon 4-H.

Bringing 4-H to the Community

The weekend concluded with participation in the Sisters Rodeo Parade, known as the "Biggest Little Parade in the West." Representing Oregon State University and 4-H Youth Development, the Oregon 4-H Foundation partnered with OSU Extension staff, volunteers, youth members, and community supporters to showcase the impact of 4-H programs across the state.

Two parade floats highlighted the creativity, leadership, and enthusiasm of local 4-H members. Youth participants rode mechanical horses, waved to spectators, and proudly represented the 4-H program, while Lucky the 4-H mascot delighted parade-goers along the route. Trustees walked alongside the floats, distributed candy and promotional items, and connected with families attending the event.

With more than 80 entries participating in the parade, the event provided a valuable opportunity to raise awareness of Oregon 4-H and celebrate the young people, volunteers, and supporters who make the program possible.

Building the Future of 4-H

The Spring Board Weekend demonstrated the unique role of the Oregon 4-H Foundation Board of Trustees—not only as stewards of the Foundation's mission, but as ambassadors for 4-H across Oregon. Through strategic planning, relationship-building, community engagement, and support of youth development programs, trustees continue to help create opportunities that empower young people to learn, lead, and thrive.

The Oregon 4-H Foundation extends its gratitude to the trustees, OSU Extension staff, volunteers, youth, and community partners who made the weekend a success and continue to invest in the future of Oregon's young people.
